FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR INCOMING STUDENTS

Mentoring Program: Student: FAQ

HOW MUCH DOES THE TUTORING SERVICE COST?

All of our services are completely FREE! We are a student-led, volunteer-based organization and therefore believe that our services should not cost money. By offering tutoring and mentoring by high school students, for younger students, we hope to bring new perspectives to learning for kids as well as develop social skills and more!

CAN MY CHILD JOIN AS A STUDENT?

We accept ALL students between the ages of 6 and 14, as well as most students at the age of 5. If your child is younger than 5 years, we may have difficulties finding a mentor. Our mentors prefer children 5 and above because they are older and able to focus. However, if you believe your child is ready for sessions, please do apply and we will let you know what we can do!

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN YOU ACCEPT FOR EACH ROUND?

We accept ALL students between the ages of 6-14. The number of students we allow to join depend on the number of mentors we have, but we will make sure that every student who filled out an application will get a mentor! We have had over 150 students in our mentoring program and we would love to have you!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TUTORING AND MENTORING?

Gift of Words offers both tutoring and mentoring. Tutoring involves teaching a certain subjects well as helping out with homework or any questions about concepts. Mentoring, on the other hand, is when high school students do activities with kids that are different from tutoring. We offer activities such as games, arts and crafts, drawing, and more! We believe that offering both tutoring and mentoring allows students to benefit greatly from our program!
